6 Ways to Ditch the Pool and Have a Real Hawaii Honeymoon

The Save to Loverly button makes it easy to save your dream wedding inspiration and vendors to your planning dashboard.
There's is nothing wrong with lying on pool lounger, sipping fruity cocktails at a Hawaiian resort... but there is so much more to this tropical paradise than that! If you're planning a romantic destination wedding or you're heading there for your honeymoon, we've teamed up with the experts at Hawaii Tourism to bring you 6 ways to serious up your holiday bliss levels and make this a trip you will cherish forever.
1. Stay up late chatting on the wharf.
Without all the city lights, you'll be able to see the clear, starry night sky! Bring some wine and a blanket, and get cosy on the secluded and super romantic shores of Puu Pehe, also called Sweetheart Rock, in Lanai. Or if you want to up your stargazing game, head to Maunakea on Hawaii Island — it's one of the most renowned astronomical sites in the world!
2. Pack a picnic.
After a couple of nights at your resort restaurant you and your partner will probably be craving something a little more personal! Pack a delicious picnic (and a bottle of bubbles) and head down to the either Papohaku or Kapukahehu beach to catch an unobstructed sunset and (hopefully) the legendary green flash — or at least the sky turn a stunning array of vibrant colors.
3. Explore the natural land beauties.
Hawaii wouldn't exist as we know it without the continuous volcanic activity that has shaped the islands and allowed so many beautiful plants to flourish there. Pack a day bag and go for a rejuvenating hike through the gorgeous lush forests in the Kokee State Park, Kauai.
4. Spend time in the water (the ocean water!).
If water sports and beaches are more your style, visit Hawaii Island and hire a couple of kayaks. Spend the sunny afternoon paddling through the crystal clear, protected waters within the pali kai (breakwall) of Hilo Bay and exploring the stunning coves along the Kohala and Kona Coast.
5. Check out a live music spot
If you and your love are into the arts, then a laid back evening of dinner with a live band is going to sound like music to your ears. Take a stroll through the charming town stores along Front Street on Lahaina, Maui to nab the perfect spot for your mellow night out.
6. Check out the island views.
Normally we are all about beauty sleep but this is worth it (we swear!). Set your alarm early one morning and hike up the volcanic crater and state monument of Oahu, Leahi (Diamond Head), to see the sun rise over the island and take in the breathe taking views!
