How to Help Your Mom Find the Perfect MOB Outfit

For many mothers, their daughters' weddings are one of the most exciting moments of their lives. And, given that your wedding is also a day when there will be a lot of professional photos taken and the entire family will be together, mom also wants to look her best! Once you've found your gown and determined your bridesmaids' attire, it's time to turn your attention to your dear mama. Here's how you can help her find the perfect thing to wear on the big day.
Think outside the dress.
Depending on how fancy your wedding will be, you may be able to give mom some flexibility. Maybe your mother just isn't the type of woman who likes wearing dresses and she'd be more comfortable in a pantsuit, jumpsuit, or top-and-skirt combination. If you're open to more options, there's a better chance she can find something that truly suits her.
Decide how much coordination is appropriate.
You may want your mom to wear something that compliments your gown or your attendants' dresses, so it's import that to determine exactly how much you want everyone to match. If you're wearing a gown with gold accents, would you like your mom to wear gold so you two can coordinate? Or do you want to be the only one wearing that hue? Asking yourself these questions before you shop will make the process smoother.
Allow for some color flexibility.
Even if all of your bridesmaids are wearing floral prints, or cream, or a shiny metallic, that doesn't mean mom needs to as well. Depending on her age and body type, she might not feel super stoked about wearing certain colors or bold patterns. If you can, try to find a complimentary hue that she's excited about.
Focus on fit over style.
If you've got the flexibility, steer mom in the direction of finding something that looks awesome on her, rather than insisting that she wear a certain length, fabric, or silhouette. The most important thing is that your mom feels comfortable in what she wears—and feels confident, too. Look for flattering waistlines and the right amount of coverage.
Be supportive.
Remember, this might be a very emotional time for mom. Her little girl is about to get married, after all. So, show her the same support she's shown you over the years and tell her she looks beautiful!
