Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge’s Opulent Jewish Wedding on the French Riviera

Exclusive access to expert wedding planning advice and resources from top industry professionals.
Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge descended on Antibes, in the South of France, for their lavish and long-awaited wedding. The pair were spotted together in April 2021 and made things official via Instagram the same month. Just a year later they were engaged; announced with a smitten selfie featuring Richie’s emerald-cut diamond ring. Grainge popped the question on a trip to Hawaii, with an elaborate display of flowers and candles at sunset. Yes, we swooned.
Upon their arrival to France, Sofia took to TikTok, donning her soon-to-be last name. Perfect timing so that we could get a glimpse of the opulent soiree. From the start, followers were eager to see what the 24-year-old model and designer would don throughout her weekend wedding. She kicked things off with a vintage-inspired linen set with a waist-length vest and mermaid skirt – posed in front of a white convertible. A ribbon-adorned Chanel handbag, round sunglasses, and a scarf completed the casual chic look.
The wedding festivities began with a charming rehearsal dinner on Friday night at a private estate. She wore an elegant high-neck hand-beaded gown, re-created from the Chanel 1997 couture fall show. Sophia designed her earrings alongside her sister, Nicole Richie, the creative director of House of Harlow 1960. Elliot, a music executive and CEO of independent record label 10K Projects, wore a deep blue Ralph Lauren suit. The evening was simple, consisting of a poolside cocktail hour with a formal dinner.
Working closely with Madame Olivia Douchez, première of haute couture salons, Richie was able to bring her dream wedding dress to life. A sparkling embellished lace-embroidered halter gown with a hint of drama thanks to a long train. It featured hidden details; an embroidered heart represents the love that she and Elliot share. With a blue embroidered ‘S&E’ on the inside of the dress, just above her heart. Equally stunning, her elegant cathedral-length veil was adorned with delicate resin water droplets. Her shoes? Crystal net pumps with a bow by Jimmy Choo.
Desiring a wedding day look that would stand the test of time, she opted to keep her makeup simple and clean. Complemented by a low braided bun and drop-diamond earrings by Kwiat, Fred Leighton’s parent company. Her bouquet, the talk of brides across TikTok, was simple yet sophisticated, made of a tight bundle of Lily of the Valley. Outfit complete, she stood out perfectly surrounded by her bridal entourage. Prioritizing her girls’ comfort, Richie allowed the bridesmaids to pick their own dresses so long as they wore black. The results were stunning and designers ranged from YSL to Rodarte.
Prior to the event, Richie made the announcement that she had converted to Judaism. Therefore, the wedding started with a Ketubah signing, witnessed by the couple’s family in her hotel room. Sophia started down the aisle at 6 p.m., led by her father, legendary singer Lionel Richie. It was a 7-minute walk down the Grande Allée, perfectly framed by the hotel and its exquisite gardens. Stephen Sanchez performed his hit song, “Until I Found You”; a surprise from her soon-to-be husband. Elliot looked dapper in a Tom Ford tuxedo with a black bow tie, pinned with a rose boutonniere.
The already breathtaking venue, an outdoor pavilion at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, was elevated with white and ivory flowers. A chuppah was constructed on the pavilion, dripping with bright greenery and crisp white orchids, overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean. Their star-studded guest list included Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, and Joel Madden, to name a few.
Following the lavish ceremony, the newlyweds treated their guests to a reception, including cocktails and a formal dinner. The evening was emceed by Nicole Richie, who was reported to have maintained a joy-filled atmosphere with humor and good tidings. After the formal festivities ended, Sophia changed into a flirty Chanel corset minidress, inspired by a design worn by Claudia Schiffer on the Chanel runway in 1993. Inclined to wear ‘something blue’, she accessorized with chandelier aquamarine stone earrings by Fred Leighton. It was a fitting switch up as the party took on a nightclub vibe, only improved by two impromptu performances by Lionel Ritchie (‘Hello’ and ‘Stuck on You’). Good Charlotte also performed, led by Joel Madden, who both Sofia and Elliot enjoyed listening to growing up.
Since the photos and details of the pair’s wedding have been released, social media has been swept by a renewed obsession with Richie’s tasteful style. The bride beautifully balanced modern luxury and tradition, for a wedding that has clearly inspired the soon-to-wed.
