How you pay your vendors will depend on their payment policies. While some vendors will allow monthly payments, others will want one payment upfront. No matter which payment method they offer, it’s important to make sure you pay them the correct amount on time. They deserve it for all their hard work!
Credit Card Payments
If you can, consider using one credit card for all payments. It’s important to choose a card that'll provide an easy payment plan, that doesn’t have added fees, and that will potentially offer you points to use for future expenses like your honeymoon.
Cash
Some vendors may request cash payments. You'll need to plan ahead of these payments to make sure you have enough cash on hand. Also, don’t forget to triple-check where those payments will take place (e.g. a secure location or account transfer like Zelle or Venmo) to ensure your money is going to the right person. When making cash payments always ask for a receipt.
Important
Stay organized. Track all payments in your Loverly budget spreadsheet. It's also important to enter all the payment timelines so you can keep track of when each payment is due. You want to avoid overdraft fees and late fee charges at all costs!
Payment Timelines
Direct Deposit
Direct deposits are popular because of their convenience. You can use apps like Paypal or Cash App to send direct deposits to your vendors.
Payment Schedule
Progress Payments leading up to wedding day are important to make sure you’re on track with everything and not late on any of the payments you have due.
Final Payment
On the day of the wedding, final payments will be due to the vendors who require them. Keep in mind that many vendors will require a final payment in advance, so they can get all the materials they need in time for the big day.
Gratuity and Tips
On the day of the wedding, you'll most likely be required to provide tips and gratuity for the majority of your vendors, so make sure you come prepared with the amount. Keep in mind vendors will probably want their tips in either cash or check. Make sure you check your contracts so you're aware of what’s expected. If you're unsure about the amount you should be tipping, our Lovely editors have created a downloadable Tipping Chart that you and your partner can use to determine the correct percentage. Tips and gratuity are a great way to show your gratitude to all the vendors who worked incredibly hard to make your special day even more special. It also may be the last time you communicate with a lot of these people!
You will want the morning of your wedding day to be as stress-free and task-free as possible. Plan for these tips at least a few days before your wedding day - write the check or withdraw the cash and allocate into envelopes you can mark by vendor. Designate who is responsible for distributing these envelopes - a parent or your Planner/Day-Of Coordinator.
Plan your wedding like a pro.
