A Romantic Destination Wedding at Casa Malca, Tulum

Tulum, Mexico
Tara and Nicolas rented out Pablo Escobar's old mansion turned hotel, Casa Malca. Their wedding was a Persian cultural ceremony called the "sofreh aghd," which includes a table setting in front of the bride and groom that includes various items that symbolize a happy marriage (ex: a mirror where the bride and groom see each other's reflection for the first time as husband and wife, eggs to symbolize fertility, candles to symbolize light/positive energy). During the ceremony, four married women hold a piece of fabric over the bride and groom while another married woman grinds two cones of sugar over it symbolizing the "raining" of sweetness from one happily married couple to another. The ceremony included a custom-built 7x7' "living chandelier" of vines and tiny mirrors that were reflected on to their sofreh aghd that was a large mirror table. For the reception, Tara and Nicolas had a massive concert-like stage built on the beach of the hotel's property. Over their marble dance floor, the couple had a custom installation built with ribbons and string lights and each table had a large centerpiece of pastel colored flowers, a tiny sugar cone as party favors for the guests, and mix-matched dishes. The inspiration for all of the designs were built around the venue itself that is filled with modern art collected by the owner, Lio Malca. The couple wanted to play off all the color already included in the sculptures and art throughout the venue as well as the gorgeous greenery that's Tulum's signature. Their incredible team took over the rest, adding pastel colored florals, lights, and romantic settings to make the whole weekend perfect.
