The coolest couples around are looking to shorten their guest lists and lengthen their weddings from one special day to a memorable week or weekend. Cost conscious couples realize their budgets go a bit further if the guest list is smaller and they take their bashes beyond the ballroom (which is only a sustainable soiree spot for a short amount of time). Couples are turning to destination villas in Italy and Morocco to take the travel trip of their dreams and get married under foreign stars with their closest friends and family.
Others are opting for a homespun domestic glamping adventure with fewer folks someplace like Yellowstone or Moab Under Canvas, which provide all the accommodations and amenities for a weekend at the same prices as a day in a deluxe ballroom. Because of social sharing platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, we're also seeing the level of wedding design going up over the years (and the more creative the better!).
Everybody wants to be unique, so couples are seeking out creative online inspiration and then bringing their ideas offline. Instead of weddings looking like... well, weddings... couples are bringing interesting interior design touches into the big day. Another trend we're seeing? Everyone wants to be the first. The minute a well-designed venue opens its pretty little doors, it’s like a bridal stampede to be the first couple to host a shindig there.
We even added a new feature for our trendsetting couples, so that they can search by the date that venues will open... So, where does a couple start when it's time to hunt for a wedding destination? Well, in order to begin thinking about your dream venue you need to consider what's important to you and your "to-be." Your wedding should feel like an extension of your lives - a dream trip you've always wanted to take or an outdoor adventure that's been calling your names. If good food and wine are staples in your lives, consider a super-charged family dinner in a vineyard.
If a destination wedding with fewer guests is more your vibe, think about a vibrant villa in Italy and touring and tasting the Tuscan hills. Also, consider your hobbies - surfers might consider a barefoot beach wedding in Mexico, while DIY pros may want to craft their hearts out in an industrial warehouse space. When determining your budget, setting realistic priorities is key (keeping in mind that most couples spend the bulk of that budgets on the venue). Event spaces are increasingly transparent about "hidden" costs and fees, but you'll still need to know the correct questions to ask.
Many venues charge for security and valet parking or tack on additional catering fees, so make sure to ask for all costs up-front to avoid taking a big hit later on. Set bottom lines and stick to them. Everything is a give and take, so make a list of your top three priorities and be flexible on the rest. Ultimately, choosing your wedding venue is about finding where your heart's at.
We are dedicated to finding the most extraordinary venues from around the world for any price point without sacrificing design or customer service.

 1. The Amado: Palm Springs, California

Spanish for 'beloved,' this mid-century modern Palm Springs mainstay will be just that to you and yours. Perfect for the design loving low-key couple looking for an intimate and ideal small wedding, it's low on pretense and high on style. New to the Palm Springs wedding scene, its owner and proprietor, Jaime Kowal (the most hospitable of hosts) also designed and renovated the space herself. The Amado sets itself apart from the larger and more lavish Palm Springs properties with its cozy and intimate vibe. You're reserving more than a space, but a feeling - a feeling of being in your own beautiful mid-century modern home without having to do any of the clean-up!

2. Yellowstone Under Canvas: Yellowstone, Montana

Rather than housing your entire extended family in an impersonal hotel for your upcoming I do's, save your sanity and consider the great outdoors. Seriously sweet for an adventurous couple that craves the finer things in life, this space offers luxury with a healthy dose of fresh air. Plus, it's the perfect place to turn your nuptials into a weekend or even a week-long affair. Yellowstone Under Canvas is not your average campgrounds and frankly, sets itself so far apart from any of it's competitors because of their endless amenities that will keep everyone entertained all weekend long.

3. The Broome: New York, New York

Get together at this gorgeous gathering place, as it's poised to soar to the top of New York's venue "It-list." For the chic couple looking to stay in the city but not break the bank, buy out the Broome and throw a beautiful indoor/outdoor bash at one of New York's iconic brownstones, marvelously masquerading as a boutique hotel. The entirety of this elegant effigy is centered around a chic courtyard with hanging succulents and #tileinspo for days. It's a stunning choice for a sweet soiree and only recently started hosting wedding revelry, so jump on this vibrant venue before it's too late!

4. Basilica Hudson: Hudson, New York

Revel in this reclaimed former 19th century factory space, now a shrine to all things performance, event, and art-related. For the artistic, DIY couple it will be easy to see the beauty in the bones of this space and your creativity won't be stifled. This achingly beautiful raw space is owned and operated by artists (one a former Smashing Pumpkin). It's unique because it's spot-on for the industrial-modern trend, retaining its original 19th century facade, but becoming a beautifully undone place for a bohemian bash.

5. Elmore Court: Gloucester, England

The Elmore is Elizabethan in stature but ever-modern in its avant-garde approach to English countryside chic and sustainability. The Guise family has owned this gorgeous spot for over 750 years, making it a splendid setting for your sweetest of soirees. For the modern-minded couple with historical sensibility, this venue is certainly the best of both worlds and therein lies its unique factor. You'll stay in the Elizabethan house (the house and handsome gardens will be exclusively yours on the big day), then you'll head to The Gillyflower for dinner and dancing. Effortlessly chic doesn't even begin to cover it. Bonus? The Gillyflower, which is sustainably built from earth and timber from the estate, is also completely sound-proof so early sleepers won't be bothered and your party can rage all night long.

 6. La Bandita: Tuscany, Italy

This stunner has piqued our party planning propensities - it's gorgeous and glam as well as authentically and terrifically Tuscan! For a couple set on a destination, this is spot on for its desirable location and lux accommodations. As a luxury villa, La Bandita really works best as a place where friends and family come to relax, share meals, explore the countryside, and drink wine late into the night. Wedding invites are going down and frequent flyer miles are going up as couples opt to spend their weddings with their loved ones on an intimate adventure at a destination on their bucket list, and we couldn't be more supportive.

7. Prospect House: Dripping Springs, Texas

Prospect House is the ideal spot for the in-the-know stylish bride who wants to be the first to host her wedding at this locale. Opening Summer of 2015 and located just 25 minutes from Austin Texas, Prospect House combines the popular barn trend with an unexpected modern twist. The stylish interior leaves little need for additional decorating, allowing the couple the time to focus on the special moments with their family and friends.

8. Treehouse Point: Issaquah, Washington

Treehouse Point is an ideal locale for the nostalgic bride looking for a unique venue for her special day. Invite your guests to experience a fairytale-like celebration while being nestled in the middle of a tree forest surrounded by dreamy treehouses. This unique experience, just 25 minutes outside of Seattle, is sure to evoke adventurous childhood memories and create an unforgettable celebration.

9. Drift Hotel: San Jose del Cabo, Mexico

Drift Hotel is not the typical beach wedding locale you’d expect from a destination wedding in Mexico. Drift's design was influenced by industrial urban lofts with a bit of Baja architecture. The basic rooms and open concept were created in hopes of promoting social interaction between likeminded guests. This venue is ideal for a hip family-oriented couple looking to extend the celebration beyond a single day. Couples can take over the industrial chic boutique hotel for an extended intimate celebratory weekend with their nearest and dearest.

10. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort: Tofino British Columbia

Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is the ultimate five-star luxury experience in the middle of the wilderness, perfect for the upscale adventure-seeking couple looking to make a statement on their wedding day. Welcome your guests with an evening at the newly launched Cloud Camp. Only accessible by helicopter and 4,500ft above sea level, Cloud Camp offers an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and your loved ones to dine and sleep under the stars with a private chef creating a special meal specifically for your group.

 11. Handsome Hollow: Long Eddy, New York

As mentioned, couples are running towards brand new venues, and this handsome fella happens to have just opened late last year. He also happens to be in New York and have a barn on the property (perfect for the - dare we say - ‘hipster’ or fashion forward couple).  The stunning, 93-acre property features fields, meadows, forests, and mountain views, plus a chic, stylishly designed, 120-year old farmhouse. Handsome Hollow is an idyllic, unforgettable wedding destination in the Catskills for up to 225 guests.

12. Malliouhana: Anguilla, West Indies

Another new kid on the block, this cool Caribbean venue just re-opened after an extensive renovation. Perfect for the jet setting preppy pair or just-plain-cool couple, this gorgeous gal is Kate-Spade-meets-James-Bond in the best way. We are in love with the pastel palette, cabana stripes, and overall design. All you need is your wedding attire with this gorgeous setting. Leave the rest to the resort.
