Jamie and Joey met on the first day of their Freshman year at the University of North Carolina. They lived in the same dorm on the same floor, and Joey had gone to high school with her roommate. And while they didn't fall in love right away (they were both dating someone from high school), they instantly became good friends; they had more than their proud Tar Heel status in common: they both grew up in Massachusetts and love the Patriots. It wasn't until their Junior year when Joey invited Jamie over to watch a Pats game, that they made a real love connection (all thanks to a broken TV and an iPad that forced them to sit oh-so-close together). The weekend after that fateful game watch, they went out on their first official date. Since the Patriots played such a big part in sparking their relationship, it's no wonder Joey decided to incorporate the team into his proposal. Here's how it all went down: I Said Yes! This Patriots Proposal Deserves Its Own Touchdown Dance
Joey and I met during our Freshman year at the University of North Carolina and started dating a little over two years ago. I'm currently in grad school at UNC and he's completing training for the US Army in Arizona. The long distance thing is tough, so I was thrilled to get to visit him in Massachusetts over New Years. Although we met in North Carolina, we're both originally from MA and thus, are both huge Patriots fans. This shared fandom is a major part of our relationship, so I decided to get us tickets to see the Pats play in their final regular season game against the Bills, at home in Gillette Stadium.
Right after we got the tailgate all set up, Joey came up to me with a wrapped present, saying he had one more Christmas gift for me in honor of my first Patriots game ever. I opened it to find a Pats jersey with the number 14 on it. I was looking at it, confused, trying to figure out who wears that number (answer: nobody). Finally, I turned it around and see the name on the back said "Thomson" with a question mark at the end. When I looked up, Joey was getting down on one knee and asked me to marry him! And I said "yes," of course! His whole family was there to celebrate with us. It was perfect! The Pats ended up losing, but we still had a blast at the game, which shows just how happy we were to be engaged.
Touch. Down. Not a bad way to kick off their happily ever after! (See what we did there?) We asked Jamie if they were planning to work a few football-friendly details into their big day because it just seems so fitting:
We will definitely be incorporating football details into our wedding! We have Patriots cornhole boards and want to enter the reception wearing our jerseys. And, we're thinking of using the jersey he proposed with as our guestbook.
So sweet! Luckily, the perfect proposal was caught on tape (take notes if you're planning on popping the question to your own little football fan):
