For the Win: What to Do When Your Sweetheart Roots for the Rival Team

The Save to Loverly button makes it easy to save your dream wedding inspiration and vendors to your planning dashboard.
1. Go to a game together.
Each of you can attend a game where you don't play each other and cheer for the other's team. It may be hard to stomach at first, but we promise your SO will appreciate it and feel extra tender towards you. And if your teams will play each other at some point in the season, go to the game together! Instead of letting the rivalry get heated in a bad way, use the excitement to spur a little fun in the bedroom. You never know, you might get turned on seeing your love covered in greasepaint and screaming for his or her team.
2. Host a game-night party.
Getting your friends together to watch a match will help ease the tension between you and your spouse by creating a festive and playful environment. Invite your friends who couldn't care less about sports to help you keep things in perspective.
3. Watch games separately.
Can't keep the peace on game night? Go to separate locations to watch games when your teams are playing. It'll keep you from biting each other's heads off after every goal, and you'll be relieved to be surrounded by likeminded fans.
4. Root for your spouse's team if yours gets knocked out.
In many cases, one of your teams will get knocked out before the Big Game. Do your marriage a favor and support your spouse's team if they make it to the playoffs and your team doesn't. Expect the same courtesy from your SO if your team is the one to advance next season.
5. Agree not to talk trash in front of each other.
There's nothing worse for a relationship than petty arguments and below-the-belt insults, even if they're meant in jest. Agreeing not to diss each other's teams is a big win for the relationship. Not sure you can do it? We just watched a few Mets players and Red Sox fans tip their caps to Derek Jeter...reminding us that at the end of the day, people's love for the game can bring them together more than it divides them.
