7 Ways to Make Pre-Wedding Fitness a Priority in the New Year

Customize your own event checklist with due dates, personal reminders, and timelines for all your wedding to do’s.
Feeling less than motivated to hit the gym this year? If you're getting married in 2017, you're probably finding yourself under a lot of pressure (mostly self-imposed) to get fit and healthy before your big day. To help jumpstart a healthier you, here are seven simple ways to make pre-wedding fitness a priority before your "I dos."
1. Set attainable goals.
Before starting your fitness regiment, it's important that you identify what the goals are of this new routine. Is it to look better on your big day? To feel healthier? Once you determine the reason for your lifestyle change, set realistic and attainable goals. Don't plan to cut out all sugar or workout for multiple hours a day if you know you won't actually do it. Setting achievable goals will make you feel less overwhelmed about the idea of pre-wedding fitness and won't leave you depressed on your big day when you didn't accomplish what you thought you would.
2. Do something every day.
Even if it's something small, make sure to stay active. Hit the gym, try out a new class, go for a walk with your partner, pop in a quick workout DVD, or do some stretching during "The Bachelor." We promise, every little bit helps.
3. Choose to eat healthy together.
Make a plan to change your eating habits for the long-haul. Team up with your S.O. to produce smarter eating habits that you both can keep well beyond the "I dos." Trust us, it will be easier if you don't have to go it alone.
4. Start a 30-day challenge.
Kick off your fitness routine with a month-long fitness or healthy eating challenge. Forcing yourself to follow a plan will give you the burst of motivation you need to start the year off right.
5. Set little reminders for the big day.
Set alerts in your phone in the months leading up to your vows. Getting a push notification that your wedding is in three months will make you think twice about skipping the gym.
6. Give yourself some extra motivation.
Reward yourself for the awesome strides you're making. Each time you reach a new goal or milestone, treat yourself to something fabulous. Whether it's a mani and pedi, shopping spree or a date with your S.O., rewards can be a huge incentive.
7. Let your partner inspire you.
Include your better half in the new fitness routine and you can do it together! Motivate and inspire each other to eat healthier, workout, and make lasting lifestyle choices. What better way to start a marriage than with a well mind and body?
