Happy wedding anniversary to Brit Morin! The entrepreneur and founder of Brit + Co married her sweetheart Dave Morin (co-founder of the social network Path) on July 16, 2011. Their day had a rustic vibe -- there were breathtaking mountains and a charming log cabin chapel, and the Texas-born bride wore "I do" cowboy boots under her dress -- with tons of techie details. As the parents-to-be (!!) celebrated their third wedding anniversary this week, we caught up with Brit and asked all about her big day.
You and your husband are certainly tech-savvy! How did you incorporate technology into your big day? Technology was a huge part of our wedding -- in fact, our theme was "Pixel Cowboy" and all of our decor was designed using pixels and 8-bit characters. We each read vows from our iPhones, coded our own wedding website (which eventually became Weduary, a wedding website creator that anyone can use), incorporated LED decor at the reception, and even created a "Guest Blog" instead of a guest book so we could preserve our memories digitally. But as much tech as we had, we were in the middle of nature in Jackson Hole, and there was definitely a significant balance of "analog" as well. I think we did a great job managing both sides of the "Pixel Cowboy" theme.
To DIY or not to DIY? We know you're a pro, but how should couples decide if crafting is right for them? DIY does not have to mean time-intensive or tough! There are a ton of super simple ways you can add customization to your wedding, even if you're a crafting amateur. We strive to make Brit + Co DIYs as easy as possible (seriously, we aim for under 30 minutes if we can) so that anyone can do them. I'm definitely a "To DIY" type of gal when it comes to brides because there is no greater way to add personalization to your day.
Where are some easy places to get personal with your wedding? There are so many options, where do you start!? If we're really going for the easiest ways to personalize, I'd say: table names/centerpieces, custom welcome bags/baskets full of stuff you and your partner love, and of course, personalized vows. I also highly recommend hiring a videographer if your budget allows. It's the best way to capture the most personal moments of your day -- you'll notice feelings and memories that no photograph could ever capture.
That dress! Where is it from? And how did you pick it? I KNOW. I'm (still) obsessed. It's Monique Lhullier. It was the first dress I saw on the first wedding blog I ever digitally navigated to, and I knew I needed to have it. Once I tried it on (the first dress I ever tried on!), I knew it was over. I was taking it home with me.
OK, what advice do you have to share with other couples busy planning their weddings? People will not remember your wedding because of how much you paid for it or how extravagant you made it. Your wedding will be most memorable and special if you truly customize it around the two of you, the things you love, and the people who matter most. What's your favorite thing about being married? Getting to have slumber parties with my best friend every single night. We sometimes even laugh ourselves to sleep just like little kids.
