8 Beauty Habits to Consider Starting Well Before the Big Day

Exclusive access to expert wedding planning advice and resources from top industry professionals.
1. Try Retin-A.
This seriously powerful formula fights fine lines and acne, while giving you an enviable glow. It's available in most drugstores, or you can secure a prescription strength dose from your dermatologist. Just be sure to start this treatment long before the wedding, as patches of red and dryness can appear at first.
2. Use SPF.
If this isn't already part of your everyday routine, drop everything and snag some sunscreen. Protecting your skin from sun damage is the number one best practice for healthy, beautiful skin. If you're considering using Retin-A or another anti-aging cream, sunscreen is all the more important, as many treatments increase sun-sensitivity. Opt for SPF 30 or higher, no excuses.
3. Water water, everywhere.
Want that healthy wedding glow? Reach for H20. The only way to avoid dry, puffy skin, is to hydrate from the inside out. Sure, creams will help, but for a true glow, your skin needs to be hydrated. Search for your recommended daily water intake (depending on height, weight, and activity levels) and start sipping.
4. Take your vitamins.
Many brides have serious concerns about their hair pre-wedding, and one way to keep locks long and strong is to reach for Vitamin B. Pair this vitamin with a gentle haircare routine (read: minimal blowdrying) and watch your tresses shine on your big day.
5. Get a trim.
Bottles can make big claims about repairing damaged ends, but the truth is, the only way to combat fried, split ends, is to trim them off. To avoid sacrificing length, take a half-inch off every eight weeks.
6. See a derm.
Up to six months before you say "I do," schedule a visit with your dermatologist. Address concerns from excess oil to acne to fine lines all under the guidance of a pro. Your doctor can help establish a beauty routine well before your wedding that will have you looking your best.
7. Get some shut eye.
Sure, you're stressed, and sleep is hard to come by. But to combat puffy or red eyes, you're going to need a good snooze. Do your best to relax, try meditation techniques, deep breathing, or reading before bed. And if all else fails? Invest in a strong eye cream to use nightly.
8. Exfoliate.
To avoid dull-looking skin, be sure to exfoliate both your face and body. Just remember that the skin on your face (especially the eye area) is particularly fragile, so limit your scrubbing to cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin, and exfoliate no more than 3 times a week. Your body on the other-hand? Use a loofah or body scrub to resurface skin daily. Now that your beauty routine is on point, get ready for the compliments to start rolling in!
