A Romantic Spring Wedding at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Miami, Florida
Asaad and Prema had a traditional south Asian wedding with multi-day events. Their first event was a sangeet. The word "sangeet" means music, but when it is used as a term to describe a pre-wedding celebratory event, it translates to "musical night". This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple, but the bonding of both families. A typical Sangeet centers around a LOT of singing and dancing till the late hours for a truly memorable evening! Prema and her Bridesmaids gave multiple Bollywood dance performances during their sangeet night (musical night). The following day they had a traditional Haldi ceremony at Prema's parents’ backyard on Sunday afternoon the day before the wedding. Haldi is a paste using turmeric and different ingredients according to individual family customs. This paste is applied to the bride’s and groom’s body which includes the face, neck, hand, and legs with the help of mango leaves. It is believed that the bright and vibrant color of the Haldi when applied to the bride & groom before they start a new chapter in their life, will bring them good luck and prosperity. On the third day, they had a traditional Muslim Nikah ceremony. The Nikkah ceremony is the Muslim marriage ceremony. In the Islamic tradition, the marriage contract is signed during the Nikkah and it’s during this event that the bride and groom say, “I do. The Nikkah ceremony was followed by cocktail hour and the reception at the historic Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Growing up in Miami, Prema dreamt of getting married here at this historic location since she was a teenager. She knew that if I was able to book this venue it would be a dream come true. She is so grateful to her partner, her parents, and her vendors for making this dream become a reality.
