Hiring A Florist 101

Drew Rios
Choosing the right wedding florist can make all the difference for your wedding. With that being said, researching wedding vendors can feel totally overwhelming.
There are so many options (and dollars!) involved, and in many cases, you're shopping for something you’ve never had to buy before. To help make it a bit less stressful, here are three things you should know before booking your wedding florist.

Book a florist who specializes in weddings and events.

A lot of retail florists just don't have the experience, vision, or time to create dynamic events. Be wary of retailers that do a lot of weddings; unless they have a business partner or an incredible staff, it's hard to focus on both aspects of florals and do both well. They also might not be familiar with the load in and load out times of event venues. Remember, added time and any accidental venue damage could end up costing you money!

Look for an experienced florist (who isn’t stuck in their ways).

Experience speaks volumes… At the same time, someone who has been cranking out the same designs for 20 years may not be a great fit for the unique style you’re going for at your wedding. The visionary up-and-comer may be perfect from a style standpoint, but they might struggle when it comes to execution. Finding a balance is key!

Design mock ups may not be included.

Many designers will include a mockup soon after you finalize your contract, but some will charge a fee for this service. If you want a visual of the end product, make sure your designer includes this as part of their package. Some couples prefer to leave the design details to their vendor and don’t ask for a prototype. Some florists have the inventory to provide these items for a rental fee, which will likely be cheaper than renting or buying them elsewhere.
Plan your wedding like a pro.
