Villa Rizzardi

The Pojega estate was purchased in 1649 by the Rizzardi counts, already resident in Verona. The garden, commissioned in 1783 by Antonio Rizzardi (1742-1808) to Luigi Trezza (1752-1823), represents one of the last examples of an Italian garden, known for its theater of greenery and spectacular perspectives (original drawings in the Library Civic of Verona). The surface area is approximately 54,000 m2: temple, theatre, walls, galleries and viewpoints were built by transforming and bending trees, hedges and water into a phantasmagoric entertainment machine. The villa was renovated around 1850, with references to the Venetian fifteenth century, designed by the architect Filippo Messedaglia (1823-1901). The garden was recently opened to the public to allow enthusiasts to visit.
