Scott’s Kitchen

On May 8, 2009, Scott Umscheid entered his first KCBS BBQ competition in his hometown of Platte City, MO, joining forces with his brother-in-law Josh Hulett, Josh’s father Roger, and family friend Tyler Fadler at the 14th annual Platte City BBQ Cook-Off at Basswood Resort. Tasked with chicken, Scott dedicated time to research and practice before turning in his first-ever competition box. Surrounded by more than 30 supporters at the results ceremony the following day, the team eagerly waited as the top ten chicken placements were announced—each spot called without hearing their name, building anticipation for what was still to come.
