A Non-Traditional Spring Elopement at Cenote Buho

The Drakes · Playa del Carmen, Mexico

The Story

Steph and Coco’s nontraditional spring elopement, captured by photographer and videographer duo The Drakes, was an intentional and soulful celebration of love. Originally planning a traditional wedding, the couple chose a more intimate path at Cenote Buho, a stunning natural setting in Tulum with a cavern, open cenote, and arch-shaped river. They exchanged vows in a sacred Mayan ceremony guided by a shaman and the four elements, earth, water, fire, and air. Surrounded by the jungle’s hum and the scent of copal, they shared ceremonial cacao and stepped into marriage, grounded and present. As night fell, the energy turned joyful as they danced on a yacht beneath the Mayan sunset to the beats of Rufus du Sol. Their elopement wasn’t just an event, it was an unforgettable experience, deeply personal and beautifully their own.
