6 Things NOT to Ask Your Partner for This Holiday Season

Discover, manage, and track all of your vendor communication, contracts, and timelines in one place.
'Tis the season of giving. And with more holidays on the horizon, it's easy to set unreasonably high expectations for your partner in the gifting department, even when you don't mean to. Whether you're not-so-secretly hoping for material things that are out of your S.O.'s price range, or emotional commitments that your partner probably isn't ready to make, it's important to examine exactly what you're asking for. In order to keep things merry and bright, here are six things you should probably leave off your wish list this holiday season: gifting departmentPhoto by bruce mars from Pexels 1. Expensive gifts that you know he or she can't afford. From that fancy pair of diamond studs to that pricey new computer, don't ask for gifts that you know your partner can't afford. Setting unrealistic expectations for gift giving will put unnecessary stress on your relationship and cause the holiday season to be anything but joyful. 2. To meet your family. If your partner isn't ready to meet the parents, don't ask him or her to. Family gatherings during the holidays can put a lot of pressure on your relationship, but make sure both you and your partner are ready before making plans. 3. A commitment. Whether it's making it official, moving in together, getting married, having children or some other large commitment, don't make ultimatums this holiday season. 4. To change his or her holiday plans. If your partner has plans to visit with family or friends, don't expect him or her to change plans to accommodate yours. Asking your S.O. to do so will only make the situation worse. 5. Unaffordable travel. Planning to visit family or take a trip somewhere far away this season? If you're hoping your partner will tag along, make sure it's affordable. Asking your other half to make a financial commitment that he or she cannot make will just add extra tension to the situation. 6. An engagement ring. If a proposal is probably out of the question this holiday season, don't keep nagging your partner to pop the question. Be patient. Your time will come (and it will be the best surprise EVER)!
