Add These Wedding and Marriage Books to Your Reading List, Stat!

As the warmer weather slowly settles in to stay, we can't help but think about our summer reading lists. There are a lot of books in our must-read pile, but if you're engaged or will be engaged soon, we recommend adding a few wedding or marriage titles to the docket. So get out your highlighters, Loverlies, and get ready to take some notes...these are the books our editors loved while they were planning their own weddings.

The Five Love Languages by Gary D. Chapman. This book is classic for a reason; it's incredibly helpful for understanding how you feel and show love, and for learning the best way to make sure your partner feels loved. 

1001 Questions to Ask Before You Get Married by Monica Leahy. If you're looking for something to talk about on your next road trip, bring this book along and use the questions to spark important discussions. 

Committed: A Love Story by Elizabeth Gilbert. This memoir from the author of Eat, Pray, Love is smart and laugh-out-loud funny. It's great for anyone who is skeptical about marriage, but we think all brides will enjoy it.

 Emotionally Engaged: A Bride's Guide to Surviving the "Happiest" Time of Her Life by Allison Moir Smith. Moir-Smith digs deep into the causes of a lot of wedding planning stress. Why do you and your mom keep fighting about the food? This book is here to remind you it's not about the food.

 The Meaning of Wife: A Provocative Look at Women and Marriage in the Twenty-first Century by Anne Kingston. This fascinating book looks at the ways marriage and wives are portrayed in popular culture.

 Marriage, a History: How Love Conquered Marriage by Stephanie Coontz. History buffs will love this book! And knowing the history of marriage and weddings can provide very useful context when planning your wedding and trying to decide what traditions are most important to you. And if you want to share the wisdom in your book of choice with your sweetheart, we suggest taking turns reading the book aloud to each other (a surprisingly fun date idea!) or downloading the audiobook version so you and your fiancé can listen together!
