Discover, manage, and track all of your vendor communication, contracts, and timelines in one place.
When choosing who will perform the wedding ceremony, many couples turn to a religious figure, or a lifelong friend. But before you decide who will be your officiant, you may want to consider some of the less obvious choices, too! wedding officiants Photo: Sarah Libby Photography via Wedding Wire Here are six unexpected options for your wedding officiant. 1. A parent. Choosing a parent as your officiant is not only sentimental, but also deeply personal. Pick a parent who's comfortable speaking in front of a crowd (and who can talk through all those happy tears)! 2. A teacher or professor. Did you and your partner share a teacher growing up? Did one of you have an influential professor who changed the course of your life? Ask him or her to officiate your big day! 3. A sibling. You may not have always seen eye-to-eye, but your sibling knows you better than most. Ask your brother or sister (or your S.O.'s) to be a part of your ceremony, and you're sure to get a honest and heartfelt performance. 4. A role model in your community. Is there a local leader who continuously inspires and encourages you and your partner? Reach out! He or she just might be the perfect officiant for your wedding. 5. A family friend. Choose a family friend who knows both you and your partner well and can speak openly about your relationship. 6. Your grandparents. Have your grandparents been married for what feels like forever? Are they your relationship role models? Have them tag-team your wedding ceremony! Planning your ceremony?
