A blowout New Year’s Eve bash complete with endless champagne and sparkly dresses can be a lot of fun, but plenty of people prefer to spend the last day of the year with their one and only. If you and your S.O. are planning some quality time together ringing in the new year, avoid an evening of takeout and Netflix with one of these fun activities: via Lover.ly Photo by Katie Price on Wedding Chicks via Lover.ly 1. Start a tradition. Who says traditions are only for Christmas? Start one that’s special to the two of you. Maybe it’s cooking up a five-course meal, playing silly board games or concocting creative champagne cocktails Make it tons of fun, and make a promise to do it again next New Year’s Eve. 2. Look back on the past year. Scroll through your Facebook feeds, text conversations and photos to reminisce on all the great things you two did over the course of the year. Want to kick it up a notch? Spend the night making a photo album or scrapbook, or hang your favorite photos around the house. Next year, you can do the same thing — and soon enough, you’ll have a lifetime full of documented memories. 3. Plan something for the year ahead. One year ends and another one full of excitement begins. Don’t go into the new year without a plan — organize some special dates or a big trip. But go beyond just dreaming it up; actually make reservations or book a flight! It’s also a good time to talk about the future of your relationship: Is there a proposal coming up in the new year? Planning on moving in together? A fresh beginning makes a great conversation starter. 4. Recreate your favorite date. It might be hard to remember EVERY date you went on this year, but there’s likely one or two that stick out. If you can, go on the same date. Make it as identical as you want — you could even order the same dish at dinner. 5. Take a trip. It doesn’t have to be a huge, cross-country vacation, but even getting out of your house can make the night feel like more than just another evening. Plan a nice dinner, get dressed up and stay in a hotel a few towns away (or even in your own town!). 6. Start a new year’s resolution together. You’re more likely to meet your goals when there’s someone supporting you along the way, and your partner is the prefect person to encourage you all year long. Make a joint resolution: Maybe it’s eating healthier (hello, date nights in the kitchen) or seeing family more frequently (see some road trips in your future?). Whatever it may be, you’re more likely to stick to it when you’re in it together.
