How to De-Stress—And Sleep!—the Night Before Your Wedding

The Save to Loverly button makes it easy to save your dream wedding inspiration and vendors to your planning dashboard.
After months and months of planning, dreaming, and, yes, stressing, trying to wind yourself down the night before the big day can be a trying task. Your mind is going a mile a minute with any last worries and heaps of excitement for the big event to come. How to slow things down so you can get some much needed sleep? Here are six tricks to try.
Drink tea—or a glass of wine.
A hot cup of chamomile should put you down in no time—not only does chamomile have a serious calming effect, but the routine alone of cozying up with that steamy mug is often enough make you feel ready to crawl in bed. Tea doesn't do it for you? Try a glass of wine—just make sure to drink water too, so you don't end up feeling hungover.
Take a bath or steamy shower.
If you're antsy, try to calm your body—and mind—with a hot shower. The steam will help you relax—and open your pores before the big day. (Bonus!) If you have lavender essential oil handy (or remember to pick time up before your wedding!) put a few drops in your shower or bath to help you relax even more.
Meditate for five minutes.
Quiet the chatter inside with a short meditation session: Focus on taking long breaths (both inhales and exhales should span to the count of five) and repeat a mantra that speaks to you. Even just saying something simple like "breath in, breath out" will help you clear your head.
Try a couple yoga poses.
Certain yoga poses are known for helping your body recognize that it's time for sleep. First is savasana, or corpse pose, which is where you lie on your back, legs spread slightly apart, and arms by your sides. (If you've ever attended a yoga class, this the usually the final pose.) You might also try putting your knees into your chest while lying on your back and rocking from side to side, which can also soothe you and relax you.
Do whatever is nagging you.
If you can't sleep because you're worried you didn't pack the right bra in your day-of bag or forgot your emergency kit, get out of bed and double check. That way, you're not dwelling on whatever it is and you can get to sleep quicker.
Don't look at the clock.
If you keep waking up or can't sleep, checking what time it is will likely only stress you out more—which will certainly not help you get that needed shuteye. If you need to, turn the clock the other way or flip your phone upside down. The big day is almost here, Loverlies... Take care of yourself so you can enjoy each and every moment!
