5 Fun Ideas for Coming Up With More Creative Date Nights

Exclusive access to expert wedding planning advice and resources from top industry professionals.
Relationship experts are always telling us how important it is to have regular one-on-one time with our partners. And that's great and all, except that it's super easy to end up just doing the same old thing every time date night rolls around, like going to dinner, or seeing whatever movie just came out. To shake up your routine, try these easy tips to help you come up with more exciting ideas. Date night will never be ho-hum again! Sit down one night and write down 10 things you each would love to do in your city, from restaurants you've been meaning to try, cultural places you'd like to check out, volunteer opportunities you could take advantage of, or even neighborhoods you'd like to visit. Then, take turns tackling—and checking off—items from your lists. 2. Play tourists in your hometown. For an even easier list of things to do together, check out articles on the top 10 things to do in your city and spend the next 10 date days/nights doing them—chances are you haven't actually been to most of these places before. 3. Take turns planning and surprising the other person. There are likely a number of fun things to do in your city that are right up your partner's alley—he or she just may not have thought about doing them. Instead of asking your partner what to do for date night, switch off planning something yourselves, separately, on the DL. Just tell your partner what time and what to wear! 4. Ask friends to write fun ideas on slips of paper, then put them in a jar. Crowdsourcing is always a good thing when it comes to date nights. The next time you hang with a group of pals, bring some paper cut into strips. Invite everyone to jot down some date night ideas—they can be serious things they enjoy doing with each other, or totally silly. Then, without looking, put all the ideas into a jar when you get home. When it's time for date night, pull a strip from the jar and do it—even if it's ridiculous. 5. Choose your own adventure for dinner. Figuring out where to go to eat can be an annoying process, especially if you both hate making decisions. So, write down a list of cuisine types you like (steak, pizza, waffles, Thai), and then a list of different restaurant types (fast food, sit-down, outdoor patio, has a view, fancy). Ask your partner to pick two numbers, then count down the two lists until you get your date night combination—will be things like Thai/fast food or Waffles/outdoor. Then, find a place that can cater to the combo. You'll certainly discover some new places to grab a bite! -By Natasha Burton Want a chance to be featured on Loverly? Join our premier vendor network.
