Exclusive access to expert wedding planning advice and resources from top industry professionals.

Eggs Benedict. Mimosas. Avocado Toast. Need we go on? Brunch is possibly one of the best times of the day. So why not choose to highlight it on one of the best days of your life? It’s 2020, and we think brunch weddings are truly the way to go.

Sure, there’s a lot of tradition built up around evening weddings. We’ve all seen the Instagram posts with the string lights, the sunset kisses, guests dancing until dawn. But we think there are a lot of great reasons why you might want to consider a brunch wedding. So keep reading and find out why a brunch wedding might be right for you!

The Venue

Now there are literally hundreds of thousands of venue options out there. However, a brunch wedding potentially allows you to take advantage of certain venue options that you might not otherwise be able to consider. Outdoor venues certainly look a lot better in the sunshine, and you don’t have to worry about carting truckloads of lighting out somewhere.

Also, if you’re looking at more competitive wedding venues, having an earlier wedding time might allow you to sneak in earlier in the calendar. Obviously, most people choose to have evening weddings and receptions, so be sure to ask about earlier wedding times at venues that say they’re booked. If it means you get to be in the space you’ve always wanted, an earlier time is definitely worth it.

The Food

You knew it was going to be on this list. Brunch, at its heart, is about the food. Whether it’s a pancake stack instead of a cake or a make your own waffle bar at the reception, holding a brunch wedding opens a new door to food options. Brunch foods may easily be a cheaper option than some dinner receptions, but you can also add some class by having a raw bar or serving some prime cuts of meat.

Brunch food is rich, filling, and decadent—a great way to celebrate the start of a marriage. With so many options for both breakfast and lunch, you know that there will be something to keep everyone happy.  And after all, who doesn’t love this donut wall in honor of “holy matrimony?”

The Drinks

And what would brunch be without the drinks? Sure, every wedding reception can have champagne toasts. But I think we all agree that champagne is always better with some orange juice in it. From your Bloody Marys to your Irish Coffees and a classic Bellini (or two), brunch is a great way to celebrate some fun cocktails.

In consideration of the budget, it’s also more likely that people will drink less at a brunch wedding (or at least some of them) since they’ll have the rest of the day after. If an all-night booze fest isn’t really your style, perhaps some light cocktails in the early afternoon might be a better way to have fun with your guests.

The Company

Speaking of an all-night booze fest, brunch weddings might help alleviate one of the most common wedding guest anxieties: getting a babysitter. If you know that you’ll have lots of kids attending your wedding, a brunch wedding will make sure they aren’t too tired and Mom and Dad aren’t juggling putting them to bed with having a good time themselves.

Plus, it’s daytime, meaning you won’t have to worry about any little ones wandering around after dark. As we mentioned above, a daylight wedding may be better for enjoying the scenery of your venue anyway. So you might as well let your younger guests wander in the gardens or kick a soccer ball around while the reception place is being turned over from eating to dancing.

The Color Scheme

Now, there’s not really a strict dress code to brunch, and maybe there’s not one at your wedding either. But a brunch wedding does give you the opportunity to explore the beautiful world of pastels. Whether it’s in choosing the bridesmaids dresses or even the color of the groom’s suit, everyone looks good in pastels.

As anyone who has planned a wedding knows, however, color scheme surpasses just clothing options. A brunch wedding offers a little bit more flexibility in emphasizing bright or fun decorations at the venue in general. Everything will look incredibly cheerful when bathed in the late morning light, and a good color scheme will still elevate even the most casual wedding to a certain level of elegance.

The Timeline

Besides just being conscientious of your guests, old and young, who might not want to be out super late at night, a brunch wedding also benefits the couple getting married. As much fun as weddings can be, they also can be incredibly stressful. A brunch wedding allows you to get through all of the stress in the morning/afternoon and still have the rest of the day to decompress.

Having some built-in time just for you might be the perfect way to make sure that wedding stress and planning doesn’t consume your entire day. It will also allow you to potentially get a jump on any honeymoon travel or allow you just to relax with your partner. Brunch weddings are a great way to prioritize your schedule and desires for your wedding day. Get the logistics out of the way early and leave the rest of the day for fun!

We know it may not be the most traditional option, but we think that brunch weddings are a great option for any one of these reasons. Whether it’s for the food, the venue space, or just to have the ability to include cute food puns on your invitations, we fully support brunch weddings. So consider breaking from the standard. If you can plan a wedding over brunch, why not have one over it too?
