Best Music To Listen To While You Write Those Save-The-Date Cards

Customize your own event checklist with due dates, personal reminders, and timelines for all your wedding to do’s.

Completing almost any task, whether folding laundry or responding to emails, is better and less mundane when you are listening to something in the background. Of course, you can always fall back on your favorite podcasts or TV shows, but when it comes to planning your wedding, turning up the volume on your Spotify playlist will surely put you in the matrimonial spirit.

Given the uncertainty of whether or not many couples will be able to maintain their original date for their wedding ceremony right now, we could all use some good music to ease the pain. Right now, your wedding to-do-list may look starkly different than what it did three months ago. Whether you are sending out digital emails for a Zoom engagement party or writing Thank You notes to friends and family members if you were able to celebrate before lockdown, these albums will hopefully ease any stress and sadness you may be feeling, and instead get you on your feet prancing around your living room with your partner.

Feel free to type in “Wedding Playlist” into your Spotify playlist and sift through all of the delicious options, but if that seems too overwhelming for you; here are some highlights.

For Pop: Bruno Mars Doo-Whops and Hooligans

From the most obvious “Marry Me,” to the perhaps less so  “Grenade,” Bruno Mars is a must. While the OG “Just The Way You Are” may be the lovey-dovey tune you need, Doo-Whops and Hooligans combines endearing love with whimsy, the perfect combo for the disorientating period we are currently living through. Whether this 2010 album will put a smile on your face simply because it’s a throwback, or because you are a diehard fan, I have a feeling you will both be dancing around your home by the end of the track.

For A Delightful Throwback: The Beatles Please Please Me

The Beatles

The Beatles are always a good idea for a pick-me-up when you are feeling down. That being said, feel free to draw from any album and hit play on whatever makes you smile or swoon accordingly. The main reason why we went with Please Please Me over other albums is because the retro pop vibes are sure to puts in the dancing spirit. Of course, this is a go-to song to accompany any wedding reception. So, if listening to a soundtrack of what could have been, we recommend turning on “P.S. I Love You” and “Baby It’s You.”

For A Trip Down Memory Lane: Taylor Swift Fearless

Taylor Swift

There's a lot of Taylor Swift to go around, but right now we're about older Swift. If you disagree, please by all means turn on “Lover” and listen to 1989 and Reputation back to back until you have written your last card. Personally, old school Taylor including “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story” prompts a trip down memory lane where Romeo and Juliet end up together.

For An All Out Dance Party: ABBA Sung By ABBA

Whether you take a break from wedding planning and watch Mamma Mia instead or just listen to ABBA’s music, we can almost guarantee you will feel a wave of energy course through your veins and prompt a second wind of motivation to finish digital or printed invitations. You could even dabble with other famous albums and dance around to “Super Trouper” or “Dancing Queen.” Just a thought.

For A Slow Dance: Etta James At Last

Nothing says father-daughter or slow-dance like Etta James’ “At Last.” Again, we can personally attest to the use of this song for a classic slow dance at weddings. Another throwback but one which makes you want to dance six-feet apart. So, grab your partner and enjoy your first dance.

As a disclaimer and final note (haha, music jokes), there are plenty of amazing songs out there that fall under the broad category of “wedding,” but our main recommendation is to pick and choose some of your own all-time favorite artists across the decades and compile their work into one major album that will promise to please and turn that frown upside down. After all, music has the intrinsic power to ease stress and help us let go.

So, say “I do” to a dance party with your significant other.
