Taylor, Our Gotta-Dress-to-Impress Guest, asked:

I've been invited to five weddings this summer and I really don't have the money to get something new for each one. Here's the thing, though... I'm actually a newlywed myself and have a ton of cute dresses from my own engagement party, bridal shower, and after-wedding brunch that are low key just sitting in my closet. Do you think I could make any of them work for these weddings?

Kellee, Founder & CEO of Loverly, answered:

Well, first, congrats on your marriage, Taylor! Secondly, that's a lot of weddings, and we totally understand why you might want to bail on buying a brand new dress for each one. The cost of going to a wedding is crazy high already, so it's a great idea to repurpose whatever you have on standby. That said, we have a few thoughts...
Plan your style splurges for the weddings of your closest fam members. If you're not one of the bridesmaids (i.e. already wearing a bridal party-picked dress), but you're super close with the happy couple, there's a good chance the nearlyweds and a handful of other overlapping guests already saw your wedding wardrobe at your own events. While repeating a dress is hardly an offense, if you want a fresh look, allocate your fashion funds to these weddings and rock something new.

Don't be afraid to rent.

RSVP'ing "yes" to five summer weddings is the perfect excuse to get acquainted with ever-popular places like Rent the Runway. You can browse through their expertly curated Wedding Guide of designers to find something fun, and it doesn't have to break the bank at all. Plus, if you're worried about scary "who wore it best" scenarios, it's a good option to find something unique and not-so-off-the-rack.

Fit your outfit for the occasion.

Consider the time of day and kind of venue when deciding if you can dip into your previously worn wardrobe. If any of the weddings have serious garden party vibes, then maybe think about breaking out your spring bridal shower ensem. A pretty pastel shift or floral print fit-and-flare go hand-in-hand with an al fresco affair. And if you want to switch up the look just a little, then swap the shoes you wore for your shower (maybe you wore nude pumps or strappy sandals) for a cute pair of espadrilles or flirty summer wedges. Alternately, your polished engagement party get-up might be great for an evening, cocktail party wedding - neutrals, in streamlined silhouettes are best for these fetes! If you played it cool with minimal accessories for your own soiree, then go all out with some fun baubles at this one!
If it was white, don't wear it. Wearing white for your own wedding festivities - your engagement party, engagement photos, shower, bachelorette, post-wedding brunch, and the like - has become a popular pick for bride-to-be. But if you're thinking about re-wearing any of your ivory or cream choices, well... pause. While some argue that white is fine for a wedding guest, many still believe the shade should be reserved for a bride. Don't risk rocking the boat and save your dresses for another day!
